MojitoWhat is a Mojito?

The Mojito is a traditional Cuban cocktail that started popping up in the U.S. in the late 1980’s. In the past few years, it has become a VERY popular drink. A fun fact about this drink: it is rumored to be Ernest Hemingway’s second favorite drink (after the Daiquiri of course).

Like the Daiquiri, the Mojito is a rum-based drink. It is traditionally made using the following ingredients:

The kick of the rum combined with the sweet and minty flavors combine to make this an awesome summer cocktail.

The firs stage to making a really good Mojito is muddling! I LOVE to muddle. In a tall glass combine the juice from a lime with sugar - then mash it repeatedly with a muddler! Then, add crushed ice. The crushed ice is important for this drink so don’t get lazy and use cubes. Pour rum over the ice in the desired proportion and top it off with club soda.

There are variations that add various fruits including the very popular Raspberry Mojito - one of my favorites. Mojitos are great because they taste amazing, they’re fun to make and they can look really great in the glass if you put a little thought into them.
