Daiquiri Recipes

When most people hear the term Daiquiri, they envision big brightly colored fruity drinks. But these exotically colored drinks are not really daiquiris. The true Daiquiri is a family of cocktails with the primary ingredients of Rum and lime juice. David Embury listed the daiquiri as one of the 6 basic drinks in his book The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks. The classic Daiquiri was one of the favorite drinks of both Ernest Hemingway and John F. Kennedy.

The “frozen daiquiri” encompasses a wide variety of alcoholic mixed drinks that are characterized by slushy, pulverized ice. You can make these drinks in a margarita machine or blender. But take note, true daiquiri afficionados do NOT consider these drinks Daiquiris. They’re more like alcoholic smoothies, but can still be a lot of fun.

Daiquiri Tip: If you’re making a blended daiquiri, blend the ice and fruit first (for about 20 seconds). Then add the rest of your ingredients.
