If you’re bartending in a larger city, chances are you’ve started hearing about a new concoction called the Whynatte. This is the new drink that oh-so-hipsters will try to stump you with. Luckily, thanks to our mybloglog community, I was already well-versed in this drink that is sweeping the nation. The cool thing about this drink is that it’s actually damn good. The only catch, is that for best results you should be at a bar with an espresso machine.
So… what is a Whynatte? It’s composed of two simple ingredients: a hot latte and an ice cold shot of Jagermeister. Whip up the latte, and pour it into a pint glass. (If your bar doesn’t have an espresso machine, you could use regular coffee, but it won’t be quite as delicious)
At this point, I normally present the pint to the customer and tell them to signal me when they can keep their finger on the glass for about two seconds. You want the latte to be hot, but you don’t want any lawsuits from someone scorching their throats or faces. Once they signal me, I give them a shot of ice cold Jagermeister. When they are suitably psyched up, it’s time for them to drop the shot into the latte and slam it car bomb style. The key is for the hot latte and the ice cold Jager to mix in the mouth at the same time. I’m growing more and more addicted.

Here is a breakdown if you want to add it to your recipe box:
WHYNATTE
- 1 warm/hot latte
- 1 chilled shot of Jägermeister
How To Make It:
Pour latte into a pint glass. Drop Jäger shot (shot glass and all) into the pint. Chug!
The whynatte is not only a killer drink, but it’s also an impressive online community. The creators of the drink are making it their mission to spread the gospel of Whynatte all over the globe. So far it’s spreading like wildfire. The site features photos of Whynatte fans from all over the world, many of them sporting official Whynatte t-shirts (available at the website, of course). There’s also a blog that charts the proliferation of the drink and includes photos and videos from Whynatte fans (including videos documenting the affects of drinking 100 Whynattes in 3 days). It’s a lot of fun and for once the drink actually lives up to the hype.

The wizards at Whynatte HQ, based out of Atlanta, have developed a canned coffee/energy beverage called the Whynatte Latte. This silky smooth beverage alleviates the difficulty of finding a good latte at a bar for for all those Whynatte Bombs. It tastes fantastic on it’s own but cool bartenders nationwide are using it in all kinds of new concoctions. My personal favorite right now is the “Southern Expresso” (Whynatte Latte and expresso vodka over ice). Check out their website to see some of the recipes. Move over RebBull…you ain’t got nothing on this Latte.
