Singapore sling is a cocktail drink first invented a century ago. The drink was made at the Raffles hotel in Singapore and later became very popular in North America.
The drink consists of gin, brandy, some Benedictine, pineapple, fresh lemon, angostura bitters and some grenadine. All the ingredient are mixed and the poured into a highball glass with ice. While this was the original recipe, the Singapore sling has gone through many changes over the years. All the ingredients have changed, however, the one critical ingredient that has remained the same is Benedictine. Benedictine is a key ingredient without which the drink is not the same.
When the drink is made in the proper way, it is truly refreshing.
The drink is still served on all international Singapore airline flights. The original drink at the Raffles hotel costs close to $25. This may sound a bit too expensive for a drink, but if you went to Paris, would you not go and see the Eiffel tower or if you went to China, would you not go and see the great wall?. The same logic applies to the sling. If you go to Singapore, you should get a taste of this great drink

Sounds great, and also VERY complex. I’d love to give a try, but I don’t know the next time I’ll be headed to Singapore…

Hi there, I have had the drink at Raffles in Singapore and It is really refreshing. Just the atmoshphere is worth paying 25 dollar for. They also have the best selection of tea

I preferred the one in Hawaii too.
I like it most because it was a little bit sweet.
I hope I will be able to drink another one soon.

Hey Great post. I’m new to your site but will definitely bookmark it.
Slings always remind me of my cousin. In our teen years when we first started enjoying drinks it was by far his favorite. I can still remember the goofy smile he used to have after having a few. He always had one in each hand…loved those slings!

I love your cocktails.
How much would it cost if you mix cocktails just for me and a few friends?

Yes that’s an amazing drink. Sling always remind me about my school days when I used to enjoy sling with my friends. I would love to visit Singapore again.

hmmm… sounds a bit like Jungle Juice.. not really but something I am interested in trying. Do you think the everyday bartender will know how to make it?

It’s truly amazing how many recipes you can find of this drink. In the diffordsguide alone there are three, all which are good. One is very similar to yours, albeit with a bit of lime juice added to the mix, and another has both lime and orange juice (fresh sqeezed of course!) replacing the pineapple, and an extra float of cherry brandy. This is the version I like the best. I have actually been omitting the benedictine, but will soon be adding it to the mix to see if the original really is the best!

I love the fresh pinapple in this drink, but too much lemon overpowers everything else and ruins the entire feel.
